Insects of Britain and Western Europe

reviews/insects-cover[1] A Domino Guide, written by Michael Chinnery. 2007 edition.

The insects of Britain and Western Europe has nearly 2500 illustrations and provides information on if and where you are most likely to see each species. While there are over 100,000 species of insects known in Europe (currently more than 1,000,000 have been described worldwide, yet some estimates put this as probably only 10 percent of the total!), most of the rest are either tiny, identical, or so hard to find that only the most specialist entomologist would even look for them.

Split into sections covering Dragonflies, Grasshoppers, Bugs, Butterflies and moths, Flies, Ants, wasps and bees, and Beetles, each description includes a brief description, and illustration a few notes on where you might see them and their habits, and a symbol guide as to whether they are present in the UK, and if so how common they are.

So when little Johny or Janey comes in with a caterpillar, or a squashed beetle, you won't know the answer, you won't even need to look it up, just hand them the book.

RRP £14.99. ISBN 978-07136-72398
