House spider macro photography
These fantastic photos of a common House spider were taken by Dave Richards (see www.dprphoto.co.uk).The photos were taken on the floor of his greenhouse. He used a mini-tripod placed next to the spiders web.
The camera he used was a Fujifilm S2pro with a Sigma 105mm macro lens with a 2x converter plus bounced flash. 60th of a second at f16 and a ISO400 with flash.
Lying on the floor is one of the more uncomfortable parts of the process!
Dave is a semi professional photographer who specialises in macro photography. See www.dprphoto.co.uk for more of his work.
The House Spider
House spiders are the ones you can find in your bath, or scuttling around the front room. Very common in the UK, and found in houses, sheds, woodpiles and many gardens.
Females are slightly larger than males, up to 10-12mm, and their legspan can be up to 60mm. They are not poisonous, and the females do eat the males after mating, though thoughtfully they don't kill them, they just wait for them to die.
